The 123 Feel Better® Glossary of Terms

Wellness has its own basic vocabulary. To help you speak the language, here are the most commonly used terms you’ll find throughout the 123 Feel Better Life Change System. Becoming familiar with each of these terms will help you to understand important ideas underlying the 123 Feel Better philosophy.

 


balance: [bal-uh ns] n.

a state of mind and body where one feels calm, peace of mind, and able to focus on living their dreams


wellness: [wel-nis] n.

an approach to living in which one focuses on all aspects of life, including the emotional, intellectual, physical, social, occupation, environmental, and spiritual life areas that make up a whole and complete life


health: [helth] n.

more than freedom from disease, but a condition of body and mind produced when one strives for optimal wellness through proper lifestyle habits and the cultivation of balance between body, mind, and spirit


action: [ak-shuh n] n.

an activity that has an effect on the direction of your life and can cause change—either positive or negative change, depending on the intention of the action


harmony: [hahr-muh-nee] n.

the balanced state of a person’s 7 Aspects of Wellness, personal dreams, and actions  


goal: [gohl] n.

the direction in which we’d most love our lives to lead, see also dream


dream: [dreem] n.

the perfect vision of what you’d love for your life to be, and the fulfillment of your purpose in life


change: [cheynj] n.

a conscious step toward our best selves, and the process by which we attain our goals and dreams to become the best that we can be


process: [pros-es] n.

the continuous and ongoing acquisition of experiences that help us to learn and grow as individuals  


stage: [steyj] n.

where you are at exactly this moment in your process  


success: [suhk-ses] n.

the attainment of one’s own personal goals and dreams, and daily effort toward living one’s purpose  


motivation: [moh-tuh-vey-shuh n] n.

the internal hopes and dreams that spur you into action and cause you to want to change for your own personal satisfaction


roadblock: [rohd-blok] n.

a mental barrier that prevents a person from making positive changes, achieving their goals or creating balance in their life  


emotional: [i-moh-shuh-nl] adj.

the aspect of wellness that deals with our inner worlds, self-knowledge, personal feelings, and ability to handle stress  


intellectual: [in-tl-ek-choo-uhl] adj.

the aspect of wellness that focuses on learning and experience, broadening one’s horizons, opening one’s mind and discovering the world around us


social: [soh-shuhl] adj.

the aspect of wellness concerning our connection with others, healthy relationships, emotional openness and intimacy with our loved ones, and a healthy balance of social life with personal responsibility


occupational: [ok-yuh-pey-shuh-nl] adj.

the aspect of wellness that helps us find our true purpose and calling, cope with work stress, move forward toward our career goals, and gain satisfaction from a job well done while bringing our work life more in line with our ultimate dreams  


environmental: [en-vahy-ruh n-muhnt-l] adj.

the wellness aspect that focuses on how our environments affect our personal well-being, how our connection to the earth strengthens our physical, emotional, and spiritual health, and how environmental factors are connected to self-care and self-love


spiritual: [spir-I-choo-uhl] adj.

the aspect of wellness that deals with our spiritual journey, the search for meaning and purpose in life, and our connection to the universe through whatever form of higher power or force we each decide to conceptualize  


physical: [fiz-i-kuhl] adj.

the aspect of wellness that concerns our physical health habits including diet, exercise, sleep and hygiene, the aim of optimal physical health, and how physical health affects other aspects of our overall well-being
